All pleasures of human life are not limited to diverse choice of food and clothes or convenience of living and traveling. It is more important that we coordinate our spiritual and material life and take it to another level. The art of living starts with pleasure of living, and planting flower and trees, or even potting, blends perfectly into daily life to intrigue the wellbeing in all of us. Due to my love for Taiwan White Pine about 20 years ago, I flew to Japan to participate in their national trend exhibitions and visited several famous gardens for this tree many times before. Although Taiwan White Pine has a history of some 40 years, we still have much to learn from the Bonsai kingdom - Japan. However, Taiwanese people have shown a sense of hardworking and resilient creativity to catch up with Japan these past few decades. To a Bonsai designer, Taiwan White Pine is both a starting point and a finishing line for it is a plant to be worked on with your entire life. Human took over nature, and human aggregations have changed rapidly over time. Woods on the mountains are chopped down for human reasons and beautiful landscapes are fading away. At a world like today’s, if we can still spare the time to appreciate and ponder on the meaning of Bonsai potting aside from nervous work and busy life, the broad sky, soft clouds, top of mountains, and glitter of waters altogether will make you feel all the 4 seasons at once. However, you will realize that time waits for no one, and therefore it’s even more obvious that we should treasure the liveliness nature makes us feel with the wind, moon, and seasonal cycles of the views. This is the art of Bonsai. 何志雄先生– 對盆栽藝術的體認 人類生活的樂趣，並非僅止於「食」「衣」之豐盛、「住」「行」之便利，而是精神與物質之調和提升，生活的藝術則發端於生活樂趣，蒔花植樹的怡情養性，盆栽生活化陶冶心胸。 余於二十年前對五葉松之喜好，亦多次前往日本参觀國風展，及各大名園五葉松名樹。台灣五葉松盆栽，雖僅有四、五十年歷史，比盆栽王國日本，仍尚有許多相互研習之處，但由於國人天生勤勞與堅強創造力，在近數十年的努力下，已得以媲美日本。午葉松對一個盆栽創作者而言，是開始也是終了，因為它是以 「永久」來完成的藝術品。 當今人類霸佔自然，鄉村部落急遽變化，山野林間廣被開墾，自然美景逐漸消失的今天，若能在我們工作緊張及繁忙之餘，培養幾盆有情趣與意境的盆景，而閒暇時當你凝視、注視，彷彿藍天白雲悠悠、高山平原、山光水色盡在眼底，給人一種四季風情的感懷，心中不禁油然感傷時光易逝，更體悟山野的風月和四季景緻的溫馨與循環，而賦予人們無限生機與啟示，這就是盆栽的藝術。
