Dale Cochoy USA
I began studying bonsai in 1978. I started Wild Things Bonsai Studio in 1989 and began teaching at that time. I have been a vendor, lectured and demonstrated at numerous clubs and symposiums around the eastern United States since that time. In 1997 I was the only U.S. vendor at the 3rdWorld Bonsai Convention in Seoul, Korea. I was personally invited by the President of the Korean Bonsai Association to sell power wood carving tools. I can comfortably style or restyle bonsai from collected or established stock and I specialize in power wood carving during demonstrations. I began making my own hand-made stoneware bonsai pottery in 1998 and this has become a successful part of my business since that time. I also teach and lecture on pottery making and often conduct pottery making demonstrations and workshops at bonsai clubs around the eastern U.S. I won 2ndplace in the “Contemporary” category in the first NBF sponsored American bonsai pottery competition at the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum in the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. I have twice entered photographs of a personal tree in the World Bonsai Photo Contest and each time had the tree selected in the top 100 entries. The bonsai illustrated is a very large specimen of Buxus Microphylla ‘Compacta’ with the common local name of “Kingsville Boxwood”. The tree and pot stands 40 inches ( 101.6cm) in height. The tree alone stands 33inches ( 83.8cm) above the Japanese Tokoname-ware pot, with a branch depth of 38 inches ( 96.5cm) and a branch spread of 32 inches ) 81.3cm).
