Dr. Enrique Castaño de la Serna resides in Merida, Mexico. He is a second generation Bonsai Artist that finishes his degree in biology in 1991 in Mexico. In 1997 he finished his Ph.D in Biochemistry and Biophysics from University of Rochester, followed by Post doctoral Positions in Harvard University and Marie Curie Research Center. He is currently a senior professor in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular biology of plants at CICY. His travels have allowed him to cultivate and work with species from all over the world. Upon his return to Mexico his trees have won the best bonsai 2006 of Mexico, selected in the best bonsai at the international Bonsai Photo contest. 2nd place at the international design competition by KOB 2007. His has a gallery set at the Art of Bonsai Project and a personal Blog at KOB.
He has done demonstrations all over his country, UK and Czech Republic. He has written several articles in bonsai journals and has been selected to be in the book Gold awarded penjing of the world and has also published his first book, Botany for Bonsai, the science behind the art.  He speaks fluent Spanish and English.
