David Benavente Spain
David began bonsai in Madrid in 1973 at the age of 14, and was professional by the age of 22. He has dedicated himself exclusively to this activity for the last 12 years. He has participated with his works in international events such as Ginkgo Bonsai Award (Gante, Belgium), where he has won awards, and was the first Spaniard to carry out a demonstration at this congress. He is director and editor of the most prestigious Spanish magazine, Bonsái Actual, but has also published articles in specialised magazines from countries such as Japan, The United States, France and Germany from the age of 23. David was curator of the collection at the Alcobendas Bonsai Museum, in Madrid for 10 years and of the National Bonsai Collection of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Madrid for 9 years. He currently runs his own school where he receives more than 120 students each year. In his capacity as teacher he has given more than 600 workshops and courses all over the world and, at 34 years of age, has designed more than 5,000 trees.
