Lithuania

I am Kestutis Ptakauskas, a businessman from the capital of Southern Lithuania region, Alytus city. I was born in1957 in Krasnoyarsk region, Russia, in a family of deportees.
My interest in bonsai and Japanese gardens started 1988.
Since 1998 I have been giving more and more time to the bonsai art. I started looking for people of the same interests in different countries of the world. In 2003 I received an unexpected invitation from Mr. Włodzimierz Pietraszko, President of Polish Bonsai Academy, to take part in the 9th International Bonsai Exhibition - Ksiaz Castel 2003, and thus to represent the Republic of Lithuania. It was my first international exhibition where I exhibited five bonsai trees.
This exhibition aroused an even bigger interest in the bonsai art. During the exhibition I received a proposal from Mr. Vaclav Novak, President of Czech bonsai Association, to take part in Bonsai & Suiseki European (EBA) Congress Jihlava 2003, which took place in the Czech Republic in May, 2003.
The participation in these exhibitions helped me to increase my knowledge in the bonsai art and enter into close relationship with several European countries.
.
In 2003 I established the Public Institution Bonsai Studija (Bonsai Studio), where I started sharing the secrets of bonsai growing with other amateurs of Lithuania. I organized trainings where I invited other bonsai masters – Jurgen Zaar, Vaclav Novak, and Marek Gajda – to share their experience of bonsai growing.  During the period of existence of the Bonsai Studija I have organized 25 international bonsai training seminars and 30 training seminars where I myself ran the training.
In 2004 Slovaks Alena and Vladimir Ondeičik invited me to take part in the 7th International Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibition BONSAI SLOVAKIA 2004.
In June 2004 and June 2005, I organized the 1stand 2ndInternational Bonsai and Suiseki exhibitions in Lithuania, as well as 6 personal exhibitions in different Lithuanian cities.
In May 2007, I organized the 3rd international exhibition Bonsai & Suiseki Alytus 2007 and Japanese Art Festival, and in June 2008, I organized the 4th International Bonsai and Suiseki exhibition in Lithuania and bonsai museum opening in my garden.
In April 2008 I participated in EBA congress in Vienna, Austria, and in September 2008 I participated in BCI-IBS congress in Italy, Saint-Vincent.
Every year I organize 3-5 personal bonsai exhibition and lectures in various cities of Lithuania, trying to popularize bonsai art.
