Lin Chih-Hsiung is the Vice President of the Nantou County Tree and Stone Association. He specializes in growing and designing Pinus morrisoncola bonsai, a species often selected in Chinese Style Exhibition.
He once visited Mr. Huang Tien-He’s Garden in Tienwei.  Mr. Huang’s trees are unique and delicate; they tilt and reverse direction in a way that he had not seen before. Such bonsai work impressed him and he sincerely appreciated  Huang’s spirit and devotion.  As a layman even though the seeds of bonsai were deeply rooted Liu’s heart, he did not move forward until two years later when the “inner seeds” germinated.  He decided then to devote his life to the far-reaching field of the living arts.
Compared to the love of other trees, Lin adores pine trees and is nicknamed “Small Pine.” He cannot help but be immersed in his work with Pinus morrisoncola plantings.  Comments and help from colleagues confirm that he has made great headway into the exposed root style with pine bonsai. n 2003 Lin studied the designs of Cheng Cheng-Kong and today his own work is linked to Cheng’s design concept of learning from nature.  Liu remarks that “There are happy times and sorrowful times along the road.  Fortunately the companion of nature brings me peace.”
