Pisit Ariyaamornkul Thailand Pisit Ariyaamornkul is the Vice President of the Thailand Bonsai Association. The bonsai seen here is known as a “Krai” – a root over rock style using a different kind of ficus specie, known for its strong growth and often seen as a forestry tree. Pisit purchased this bonsai in Thailand in 1997 and redesigned it. He entered it into the annual Thailand Bonsai Association contest in 2003 held at the King Rama IX Royal Garden where it received first prize and a trophy from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The outstanding feature of the Krai is that with its 200- centimeter height, its roots attached to the rock tidily. It also has a beautiful trunk with perfectly balanced branch structure. The graceful trunk with its powerful upright form and evergreen leaves provide year-round interest, making the Krai particularly suited for bonsai. This bonsai is about 40 years old. |
