Jan was born in Indonesia some 70 years ago. He speaks Indonesian, English, Chinese and Japanese. He fell in love with bonsai and suiseki in 1988 and regularly visits the masters whenever he travels to Japan
He found his love for Bonsai Suiseki in the 1980's when he worked as a Japanese tour guide, He guided an Indonesian bonsai group visiting an International bonsai exhibition. He had the privilege of meeting the major Japanese bonsai and suiseki masters including Saburo Kato, Kimura . He became a regular visitor of the masters whenever he traveled to Japan. It improved his knowledge immensely on Bonsai and Suiseki.
He joined the Indonesian Bonsai Society in 1989 and the Suiseki Association in 1992. He collected stones from Indonesia, Japan and Taiwan. Several times he was appointed as suiseki judge in the National Suiseki shows. Some of his suiseki won prices in the exhibition.
