On March 31 to April 1, 2026, BCI China Vice Chairman Wu Min, Chinese bonsai art master Xing Jinke, and renowned Hubei artist Li Jianhua made a special trip to Baowen Garden for a visit and exchange. BCI Chairman Chen Chang extended a warm welcome to the visiting experts. BCI China Vice Chairman Chen Zhaonian, Secretary-General Xu Dongting, bonsai master Luo Zhijie, and senior technician Guo Shaobo accompanied the exchange. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on core topics such as the inheritance of bonsai art, cultivation of distinctive varieties, and innovative development of the industry.
Master Xing Jinke, who visited this time, is a highly influential senior expert in China's bonsai community, a Chinese bonsai art master who began his career in bonsai art creation in 1979, delving deeply into bonsai techniques for nearly half a century. Over the years, he has devoted himself to bonsai creation and theoretical research, with a particular focus on the cultivation, creation, and inheritance of Fraxinus hupehensis bonsai, making him a leading figure in the study of Fraxinus hupehensis bonsai art in China. His bonsai works are uniquely crafted, adhering to the creative philosophy of "originating from nature and surpassing nature," and have won numerous awards at international and domestic bonsai exhibitions. He has also long served as a judge for BCI international exhibitions, national bonsai exhibitions, and master selection panels, traveling extensively across the country to teach bonsai techniques, nurture young talent, and promote regional bonsai industries, making significant contributions to the inheritance and dissemination of Chinese bonsai art, especially the distinctive bonsai culture of Hubei.
Vice Chairman Wu Min, Master Xing Jinke, and other experts visited the premium exhibition area of Baowen Bonsai Garden and the Zhujiang Shuizhibao koi breeding base, carefully observing the garden's various bonsai masterpieces and the distinctive koi cultivation scenes. Secretary-General Xu Dongting provided a detailed introduction to the development history, management, and creative philosophy of Baowen Garden, focusing on the two characteristic bonsai categories of Fraxinus hupehensis and Lingnan miscellaneous trees. He shared years of practical experience, techniques, and innovative ideas with the visiting experts from multiple dimensions, including cultivation and care, styling and creation, and skill inheritance, comprehensively demonstrating Baowen Garden's solid achievements in deepening bonsai art, educational inheritance, and industrial development exploration.
During the visit and exchange, Vice Chairman Wu Min highly praised the development achievements of Baowen Garden and the outstanding contributions of Chairman Chen Chang to China's bonsai cause. He stated that Chairman Chen Chang has been deeply involved in the bonsai field for decades, not only helping Chinese bonsai art reach the world stage and occupy an important position in the international bonsai arena through his exquisite artistic attainments and profound industry influence, but also long committed to promoting academic exchanges and industrial upgrading of Chinese bonsai and Lingnan bonsai, building a high-quality platform for multi-party exchanges and cooperation. Under Chairman Chen Chang's leadership and promotion, over the past two decades, China's bonsai industry has achieved comprehensive development and rapid progress, with remarkable achievements in skill inheritance, talent cultivation, work innovation, and large-scale industrial development, injecting strong momentum into the modernization of traditional bonsai art.
Drawing on his decades of experience, Master Xing Jinke focused on Hubei's distinctive bonsai resources and provided a comprehensive and detailed explanation of the historical origins, artistic value, cultivation technical challenges, current industrial development status, and future prospects of Fraxinus hupehensis bonsai, which originated in Hubei. He pointed out that Fraxinus hupehensis, as a nationally rare and endangered protected plant and high-quality bonsai material, combines a rugged, ancient formal beauty with profound cultural heritage, and is an iconic representative of Hubei bonsai art. The inheritance and development of its cultivation and creation techniques are of great significance for enriching China's bonsai varieties and promoting the cross-boundary dissemination of regional bonsai culture. At the exchange, Master Xing Jinke formally submitted a carefully compiled development report on Fraxinus hupehensis to Chairman Chen Chang, earnestly requesting Chairman Chen Chang to provide professional guidance and strong support for the report's content with his rich industry experience and forward-looking vision, so as to jointly promote the standardized, systematic, and large-scale development of Fraxinus hupehensis bonsai art.

Witnessed by Vice Chairman Wu Min and the experts present, Chairman Chen Chang formally presented Master Xing Jinke with the appointment certificate as an expert in Chinese ash bonsai, officially appointing Master Xing Jinke as a research expert in Chinese ash bonsai. Chairman Chen Chang stated that this appointment aims to gather top professional strength in the industry and deepen the research and creation of distinctive bonsai varieties. In the future, Baowen Garden will establish a regular communication and exchange mechanism with the experts, continuously carrying out a series of activities such as bonsai skill exchanges, academic discussions, and talent cultivation, further promoting the iterative innovation of bonsai creation techniques, strengthening the conservation management and cultural heritage research of representative bonsai works, helping Chinese bonsai art innovate in inheritance and develop in innovation, and jointly advancing the entire bonsai industry to a new stage of higher-quality development.
