Native South African trees suitable for bonsai are the wild olive, Olea europaea subsp. cuspidata; many indigenous gs which include the veld g, Ficus burtt- davyi, the common wild g, F. natalensis, rare forest g, F. craterostoma, red-leaved rock g, F. ingens and sycamore g, F. sycomorus; species of acacia like the sweet thorn, Acacia karroo, splendid acacia, A. robus- ta, monkey thorn, A. galpinii, camel thorn, A. erioloba, black monkey-thorn, A. burkei and black thorn, A. mellifera; white stinkwood, Celtis africana; the bronze paper commiphora, Commiphora harveyi; the Baobab tree, Adansonia digitata; false Olive, Buddleja saligna; the Num-Num shrub, Carissa grandi ora; Schotia afra and Schotia brachypetala; and Brush Cherry, Syzygium paniculatum.
