William Caplinger

About

I was introduced to bonsai in 1980 by Yuji Yoshimura at the NY Botanical Garden in his Classical Bonsai course series. I was a landscaper a the time, and after 7 years in NY I returned to the West Coast and was a landscape designer and consultant in Seattle and Los Angeles. At UCLA I met Dr. Jonathan Sauer, an eminent plant geographer, and pursued that course of study, which culminated in an M.A. a UC Davis. There I embarked on an odyssey researching the history of bonsai and tree dwarfing and am currently writing a definitive study, hopefully to publish this year.
