About

Vaclav Novak: A Bonsai Visionary and Global Ambassador Vaclav Novak, born on January 27, 1952, has lived a life dedicated to the art of bonsai. His journey from a technical college student to a renowned bonsai expert is a testament to his passion and commitment. After completing his studies in water transport at the technical college, Vaclav began his career as a machine operator on a boat on the Labe river. He later worked in a glass factory in Libochovice before returning to his love for boats. However, in 1990, his life took a momentous turn when he established the Bonsai Centrum in his hometown of Libochovice. Together with his partner, Karel Kalouš, Vaclav set up gardens, nurtured a nursery, and, of course, cultivated bonsai trees. As his passion for bonsai grew, Vaclav decided to devote himself entirely to the art of bonsai from 1999 onwards. He immersed himself in the world of bonsai and honed his skills, becoming a true master of the craft. Vaclav Novak’s influence and expertise in bonsai have transcended national borders. He has organized seminars, demonstrations, and exhibits of his bonsai trees not only in the Czech Republic but also in countries around the world. His talent has been showcased in England, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, the USA, Vietnam, China, and many more. His interest in bonsai was sparked by a lecture given by Mr. Hideo Kato from Japan during an event in Prague in 1982. What began as a hobby soon transformed into Vaclav’s life’s work, solidifying his place as a distin¬guished figure in the global bonsai community. Vaclav Novak’s dedication to bonsai extended beyond his personal pursuits. In 1990, he co-founded the Bonsai Club Libochovice, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among bonsai enthusiasts in the region. His passion for bonsai and desire to promote its artistry and culture led to the establishment of the Czech Bonsai Association in 1997, with Vaclav elected

Bonsai Clubs International — Important Notice

BCI 2026 Convention — Cancelled & Postponed

Status: Cancelled & postponed — until further notice

Bonsai Clubs International has been formally notified by the host, the Malaysian Penjing Art Creation Society (MPACS), that the BCI 2026 International Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — originally scheduled for 19–23 June 2026 — has been cancelled and postponed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances, including the ongoing global fuel crisis and the withdrawal of anticipated funding and financial support.

This is a postponement, not a retreat from our shared commitment. Revised dates and arrangements will be announced through official BCI channels once conditions allow and preparations are confirmed. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support.
