SI-DIAO art

Master Cheng-Kung CHENG, the innovator of silk-fiber carving (Si-Diao) for bonsai, is the owner of 日友園 in Yunlin county, Taiwan.
One key issue for bonsai art is how to present Shari (relics) with nature feel; however, a man-made carving is inevitably left the residuals of cutting artifact behind. The Master, motivated by his enthusiasm to perfection, has climbed Jade Mountains several times, observing the aging process of Shari of the stem and branches. He proposed a novel Bonsai skill that can show an artificial Shari with silky texture just like natural forming, called SI-DIAO (means “silk-fiber carving” in Chinese). The Master also invented a set of tools to make this skill more feasible and applicable to different species in various situations. Si-Diao carving gives the essential freedom for a bonsai creator to show the nature beauty of living power as well as the imperishable spirit in one tree.
Due to his outstanding aesthetic perception and skills, his works have been awarded with medals in numerous exhibitions. Since 1993, he has been invited by Bonsai Associations in Philippines, Singapore, China, South Africa, Italy, the United States, Germany, Malaysia, and Indonesia to promote Bonsai art through lectures, seminars and demonstrations. Profession gardeners and participants of his lectures are attracted and encouraged by his magical art and skills. His Si-Diao is also admired as the finest art of Bonsai.
Mater Cheng summarized his experience, publishing two volumes of “Bonsai Shari Si-Diao: Using Carving Art to Creation of the Essentials of Nature Shari”. His publications lead others to step up the palace of Bonsai art.

Enzo Ferrari, born November 5, 1953, began his passion for Bonsai in 1974, when this art was practically unknown in our latitudes.

Enzo translated from Japanese "en" means garden, while "zo" means to create

In 1986 he collaborated in the birth of the Bonsai Club Ticino, alongside the President and founder Kurt Wiedwerkehr and became Vice President.
He meets Pius Notter and follows his seminars as a student.
In 2007, in order to better refine his knowledge and improve techniques, he decided to enroll in the Bonsai Art School, initially with Master Hideo Suzuki, later with Maestro Keizo Ando, with whom, in 2012, he obtained with full marks the diploma of the Bonsai Art School.
For over twenty years he has been a member of the Vereinigung Schweizer Bonsai-Freunde (Swiss Association of Friends of Bonsai), also a UBI member (Unione Bonsaisti Italiani), member of AIAS (Italian Association of Suiseki Amateurs) and member of Nippon Bonsai Sakkakyookai Europe (born to disseminate traditional Japanese bonsai in Europe).
He has received national and international awards, while the requests for his presence as a demonstrator in national and international events are constantly increasing. His articles published in the major bonsai magazines are followed with interest.
He constantly follows courses with the best Japanese Masters in order to increase his knowledge and constantly improve himself.
In 2016 he took over the Bonsai Ticino business and became its owner.
In 2017 he founded his school on the Art of Bonsai.
The school name is not chosen by chance:
en-zo Swiss Bonsai School.
Why use the name of the founder, many will ask.
Because translated from Japanese "en" means garden, while "zo" means to create.

Understanding nature is the best approach to create bonsai

Born in East Java Indonesia 1967, Rudi Julianto graduated from the "Indonesia Institute of Art" in 1990.
He started growing bonsai as a hobby in 1987, he is self-taught and considers nature as his best teacher. The satisfaction he gains from collecting from the wild, nursing the collected tree, and then creating a different natural form is unlike anything else he has experienced.
Rudi has over 100 bonsai of various tropical species, all created by himself, displayed in his garden. Semi cascade is his favorite of all styles, but he derives inspiration from viewing bonsai as well as Mother Nature.
When asked how important is drawing in bonsai styling, he replies, "The planning of styling a wild tree to become an artful creation includes extensive drawing to begin the process. Following the drawing as a guideline and putting an ample amount of time into care and love for the tree will ultimately give us the result that we are looking for.
He has given several demonstrations during Indonesian Bonsai Society national exhibitions.
His works won several prices during national contests.

I deepen my knowledge on the cultivation of Mediterranean plants, improving the level on cultivation and aesthetics

Bonsaist born in Ragusa 34 years ago inheriting the passion for nature from my father.
After a year spent as an amateur discovering the artistic techniques of self-taught bonsai, in 2006 I took to approach the Andoli Bonsai School.
I started to study and grow even following the intensive internships in the garden of Maestro Andolfo. In the next 4 years, experience and more and more experience, specializing in aesthetics and design.
After 3 years of school I took part in the Italian Talent that I also won.
In 2010, after taking the final exam and having obtained the title of Instructor dell'Andolfo Scuola dei Bonsai, my training path was set and I started my journey as an instructor. In the same year I became president of the Bonsai Club Vittoria, where I started to take courses and follow the members of the Club. In the following 7 years I have deepened my knowledge on the cultivation of Mediterranean plants, improving the level both on cultivation and aesthetics. In the meantime, with my friend Giovanni Mugnas, we decided to create a "Taiyoo-En" bonsai school
