Vaclav Novak, born on January 27, 1952, has lived a life dedicated to the art of bonsai. His journey from a technical college student to a renowned bonsai expert is a testament to his passion and commitment.

After completing his studies in water transport at the technical college, Vaclav began his career as a machine operator on a boat on the Labe river. He later worked in a glass factory in Libochovice before returning to his love for boats. However, in 1990, his life took a momentous turn when he established the Bonsai Centrum in his hometown of Libochovice. Together with his partner, Karel Kalouš, Vaclav set up gardens, nurtured a nursery, and, of course, cultivated bonsai trees.

Vaclav Novak’s dedication to bonsai extended beyond his personal pursuits. In 1990, he co-founded the Bonsai Club Libochovice, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among bonsai enthusiasts in the region. His passion for bonsai and desire to promote its artistry and culture led to the establishment of the Czech Bonsai Association in 1997, with Vaclav elected as its president. This move marked the beginning of a profound impact on the development of bonsai in the Czech Republic and its integration into the European Bonsai Association (EBA) in 1998.
